Snowstorms and Motivation
Over the past two days Missouri has been hit with a lot of snow and rain. As I type this, it’s still teeming.
Snow days are fine but they throw me off. You can relax but waiting around and checking the windows for the conditions. You can’t do much when the roads are bad and nobody knows how to drive. But at about 5pm last night, I got stir crazy and ventured out.
To my surprise, a few stores were open, despite the need for an AWD vehicle to get around. That didn’t stop people from trying in a Altima or Civic that I’m sure didn’t get far.
Where did I go in the middle of a storm?
I drove to the gym, like any sane person would through the snow, rain, and ice. As I turned the corner, the parking lot was packed. The rest of the city was a ghost town, but here was a circus.
I had to park at the last possible spot. As I walked up, passing all the cars. I shook my head. Us fitness people are a crazy bunch.
Once inside, I saw all the regulars. It was just another day, like nothing had happened.
It was an epiphany moment.
When you’re in the zone, nothing can stop you. Every person in the gym that night was already in shape and could easily take the day or even a month off, and nothing would change.
They had a valid excuse not to be there but instead, they were doing squats and pushups, like any other day.
That’s the place you want to be for your goals, hope and dreams. Where a snowstorm doesn’t mean shit and you could take the day off but you won’t.
It’s just another day.
