The Resistance

Day 3 and I already don’t want to write another article. Kinda surprised but not really.

The Resistance, as coined by Steven Pressfield in his book War Of Art, is the fight or flight voice in our head we feel when we:

Stare at a blank page.

Start a new business.

Walk up to the girl at the bar.

Ask a question in-front of a crowded room.

The stomach churning, anxiety feeling we all have at one point or another.

The voice you hear that says:

Not good enough.

I don’t know what to say.

She’s not interested.

No one’s going to read it.

I’m tired.

This is stupid.

Blah blah blah wah wah wah bs bs bs.

It’s fear, self doubt,procrastation, insecurity.

Damn if you could just figure out a way to overcome it.

If we could just get it to STFU.

Truth is, you can’t and it’ll always be there.

15 years of exercising and most days I don’t want to work out. 5 years of consistent writing and I have writers block daily.

The resistance is the dumb part of our brain that comes up with every believable excuse, and the only way: is through them.

So every day you chip away and you get a little better.

You confidence rises, and that voice get’s quieter.

But it never disappears.

Imagine if you didn’t listen to the fears and insecurities that hold you back. What what your life look like if you did all the things you set out to do? What could you do, see, feel, and create if you heard the voice and did it anyway?
